Shadewright
The official GSV design system: a canon of 74 numbered rules, a token layer where every token carries an @cites comment naming the rule it serves, plain-CSS components, and mechanical enforcement that fails the build when canon and tokens diverge.
Shadewright is the official design system of the General Systems Ventures portfolio, named for the craft (a wright works a material; the material here is shade). Its organizing bargain (canon section 0): a rule is citable only if it supplies a checkable unit — the canon states falsifiable predicates, the token layer states values that must satisfy them, and shadewright/lint fails the build when they diverge. All three ship as one versioned package so the @cites citations from tokens to rules cannot rot across versions. The token layer splits into structure.css (theme-invariant, declares no colour) and palette.css (semantic values, light and dark), so a second adopter can bring its own palette; shadewright/palette exposes the structure-to-palette contract as data with testable assertions. Components ship plain CSS rather than Tailwind because Tailwind v4's automatic source detection excludes node_modules — a consumer would render correct structure with no styling and no error. Every packaging rule in the README records a defect that actually reached a consumer, enforced by a cold-store consumable gate in CI. Status: five consumers across four repositories; publishing to the public npm registry decided 2026-07-31, with the repository itself staying private.
